Landmark Vineyards
Lavender and ripe stone fruits jump out of the glass. This is followed by notes of cocoa, brambly fruit, dark chocolate and roasted meats. A smooth entry leads into depth and concentration on the mid-palette. Fine tannins pull it all together with a lush lingering finish. This syrah will pair nicely with red meats or pastas where strong seasonings, such as tomato, garlic and rosemary.

The 2009 Syrah Steal Plow Kivelstadt Vineyard is a big, burly wine loaded with blackberries, graphite, menthol, tar and licorice. The 2009 is something of a brute, but it reveals plenty of persistence and no shortage of personality. With time in the glass, some of the rougher edges soften, allowing the radiant fruit to emerge more fully. Readers who can give this some time will be treated to a delicious bottle of Syrah. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017.

Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.
