Columbia Crest

Aromas of poached pear, caramel apple, spice and a hint of blossoms precede a mouthful of bright fruit, reminiscent of a fresh Gala apple. The refined flavors of this crisp Chardonnay end with a gracefully lingering finish of cream and butter nuances.

Wine Spectator

Light in texture, playing caramel and tobacco flavors against lime and green apple fruit, mingling effectively on the lively finish. Drink now through 2014. 250,000 cases made.

Score: 88. —Harvey Steiman, July 31, 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2009 Chardonnay Grand Estates was 100% barrel-fermented, went through full malolactic fermentation and was aged sur lie with weekly batonnage, a huge investment in labor for 250,000 cases of wine selling for $12. The nose offers up hints of oak, pear, apple and tropical fruit aromas. Smooth-textured, spicy, and well-balanced, this lengthy effort over-delivers in a big way.

Score: 88. —Jay Miller, August 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

This mid-level Chardonnay from Columbia Crest has a broad fan base, and is a popular by-the-glass pour. It is soft and plush, the fruit seems to float on a bed of puffy toast. Buttered apples, pastry and a finishing smack of green apple acidity leave you wanting the next sip.

Score: 87. —Paul Gregutt, July 01, 2011.
