Trimbach

One of the noblest of Alsace grapes, it produces a full, heady, rich fruity style, often with a lushness of aftertaste. Its great depth is balanced by the crisp acidity that gives structure and longevity. A slight smokiness, combined with underlying delicacy, is a typical feature. The selection of very ripe grapes allows this Pinot Gris Réserve to match wonderfully with exotic, asiatic and japanese food. Superb with food, the Pinot Gris comes into its own with terrines, foie gras, smoked fish, fish in sauce (notably salmon) and white meats.

Wine Advocate

While the Trimbach 2007 Pinot Gris Reserve (largely from purchased fruit) harbors seven grams of residual sugar (high for this address), its Riesling-like acidity and extract render it dry-tasting. Scents of white truffle; candied lime and orange peel; and peach could also be those of a Riesling. Firm, polished, and palpably full of stuffing, yet succulent and downright refreshing in a way Alsace Pinot Gris seldom is, this brings varietally recognizable smoke and lip-smacking saline savor in its finish. As a classic (read: "old-fashioned, dry-tasting") Alsace Pinot Gris that should drink well for at least 8-10 years, this represents an exceptional value … and if you consider the price of white truffles, it's a steal!

Score: 91. —David Schildknecht, April 2010.

Wine Spectator

A dry Pinot Gris, with hints of mushroom accenting the pear, white peach and smoke notes. Citrusy acidity enlivens this fleshy white, with a lingering, smoky finish. Drink now. 19,000 cases made.

Score: 88. —Alison Napjus, November 15, 2010.
